Porosity

core location (Dane County) shown on bedrock map of Wisconsin

General core data

WGNHS ID: 13001466
Site name: NS-2
Location: Dane County T 7 R10E, SW Section 30
Depth: 60.2 ft
Formation: Tunnel City
Lithology: Tan to yellow, fine- to medium-grained, well sorted, subrounded to rounded, well-cemented quartz arenite with 10-15% isolated glauconite grains and calcite cement. Alternating glauconite-rich and glauconite-poor laminae show convex-up orientation possibly suggesting hummocky cross-stratification with thin, white convex-up and concave-up discontinuous laminae, which may represent molds of skeletal material. Vertical burrows are filled with similar material.

Measured parameters

Dry density: 1.93 g/cm3
Wet density: 2.21 g/cm3
Grain density: 2.67 g/cm3
Porosity: 0.28
