Celebrate Earth Science Week: October 14–20, 2012

Earth Science Week

Take part in Earth Science Week 2012! Held October 14-20, this year's theme, Discovering Careers in the Earth Sciences, engages young people and the public in learning how geoscientists gather and interpret data about the Earth and other planets. Some of the events are listed below. Visit earthsciweek.org for a full list of activities.

Participate in contests: a photography contest, a visual arts contest for K–5, and an essay contest for grades 6–9. The deadline for sumbissions is this Friday, 5 pm (EST).

Celebrate Geologic Map Day on Friday, October 19: A special event designed to promote awareness of geologic mapping and its importance to society. (Below, a map produced by the Survey showing the Pleistocene geology of Chippewa County, Wisconsin.)
